Treatment and Evaluation of ADHD, Anxiety and Depression at Morgan Pediatric Center


What is ADHD?

ADHD means Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it is the most common neurobehavioral disorder of childhood and can profoundly affect the academic achievement, well-being, and social interactions of children. Oftentimes, a child with ADHD wants to do good in school but finds it hard to pay attention or control impulsive behavior. The child is often described as someone “who does not listen to the teacher” or “talks a lot in school” or “causes trouble in class”.

Symptoms of ADHD

The following are signs to look for if you suspect your child has ADHD:

• Fidgeting and squirming a lot
• Difficulty sitting still or relaxing
• Running or climbing inappropriately
• Constantly moving
• Talking excessively
• Having a quick temper
• Acting without thinking 
• Intruding on other people’s conversations or games
• Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time
• Constantly interrupting others
• Trouble keeping powerful emotions in check

Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression

The following are signs to look for if you suspect your child has signs of anxiety and depression:


  • Depressed or irritable mood
  • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
  • Change in grades, getting in trouble at school, refusing to go to school
  • Change in eating habits
  • Feeling angry and irritable
  • Mood swings
  • Feeling worthless or restless
  • Frequent sadness or crying
  • Withdrawing from friends and activities
  • Loss of energy
  • Loss of self esteem
  • Thoughts of death or suicide
